Improving Women's Healthcare: Sharifan BiBi's Gynae Campus

The launch of Sharifan BiBi Memorial Hospital’s Gynae Campus marks a significant step towards improving women’s healthcare by providing specialized services and facilities that cater to their unique needs.

Sharifan BiBi Memorial Hospital, one of the leading healthcare providers in Sialkot, has recently opened a new campus dedicated to women’s health. The Gynae Campus, as it is called, offers a wide range of gynecological and obstetrical services, as well as comprehensive preventive care, health education, and counseling for women of all ages and backgrounds.

“We are delighted to launch the Gynae Campus, which represents our commitment to providing high-quality and patient-centered care that meets the diverse needs of women in our community. With the latest technology, a team of experienced professionals, and a comprehensive range of services, we aim to empower women to take control of their health and well-being. This is a significant milestone for us, and we are proud to be able to offer affordable and accessible healthcare services to women in the region.” – Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Senior politician, and Chairperson of Sharifan BiBi Memorial Hospital.

It’s heartbreaking to know that the indigenous communities of 200 villages adjacent to the Pak-India border belt in Sialkot lacked modern, well-equipped state-of-the-art maternity facilities. Women in these areas had to travel to the city to get consultations and other services, and most of them lost their lives due to un-trained birth handlers. But now, the Gynae Campus is ready to serve this marginalized population, providing accessible and quality maternal and child healthcare services. The campus aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the region by promoting normal delivery instead of C-section and ensuring safe motherhood and childhood. It’s a crucial step towards improving the healthcare system in Pakistan and catering to the needs of underserved population.

Reducing maternal mortality is a pressing issue in many countries, including Pakistan. Despite a gradual decline in the maternal mortality rate, Pakistan still lags behind its set targets. The healthcare system faces significant challenges such as a shortage of skilled staff, inadequate facilities, lack of education, and social constraints. The situation is further exacerbated by the rural environment, poverty, and widespread ignorance.

“Cognizant of the alarming rate of infant and maternal mortality in Sialkot and its surrounding villages, the mission of Sharifan BiBi Memorial Hospital’s Gynae Campus is to provide accessible and quality maternal and child healthcare services to the marginalized population of the area. We aim to reduce the maternal and infant mortality rate in the region by ensuring skilled staff, adequate facilities, and raising awareness about the benefits of antenatal and delivery care.” – Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan.

The hospital’s design incorporates the latest technologies and equipment, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. Its staff will include highly qualified and experienced medical professionals who are dedicated to providing compassionate care to patients.

Patient comfort and convenience are a top priority at Sharifan Bibi Memorial Hospital. The hospital has been designed with spacious and comfortable patient rooms that are equipped with modern amenities. Patients will also have access to a range of support services, including diagnostic testing, rehabilitation, and counseling.

  • According to the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (PDHS), the maternal mortality ratio in Pakistan is 186 deaths per 100,000 live births.
  • The majority of maternal deaths in Pakistan are due to direct obstetric causes, such as hemorrhage, sepsis, and eclampsia.
  • Access to maternal healthcare is a significant issue in Pakistan, with only 62% of women receiving antenatal care from a skilled provider, and only 48% of births occurring with skilled attendance.
  • In rural areas of Pakistan, access to maternal healthcare is particularly limited, with only 37% of women receiving antenatal care from a skilled provider, and only 31% of births occurring with skilled attendance.

To address these challenges, the Gynae Campus is designed to provide a comfortable and safe environment for women to receive specialized care that addresses their unique health needs. The campus boasts state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, including ultrasound machines. The campus also features a team of experienced and compassionate gynecologists, obstetricians, nurses, and support staff who are dedicated to providing the best possible care to their patients.

The launch of the Gynae Campus is a significant milestone for Sharifan BiBi Memorial Hospital, as it reflects the organization’s commitment to reducing infant and mother mortality rates, and empowering women’s health and well-being. By providing accessible and affordable healthcare services that are tailored to women’s needs, the hospital aims to enhance the quality of life of women in Sialkot and its surrounding villages and contribute to the overall improvement of the healthcare system.

The Gynae Campus offers a wide range of services, including antenatal care, family planning, cervical cancer screening, breast cancer screening, menopause management, menstrual disorders, pelvic floor disorders, and more. The campus also provides education and counseling services on sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle modification.
The launch of the Gynae Campus is a timely initiative, given the growing demand for women’s healthcare services in Sialkot. The campus is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of women, especially those who face barriers to accessing healthcare services due to social, economic, or cultural factors.

In the future, Sharifan BiBi Memorial Hospital’s Gynae Campus aims to collaborate with the government and international organizations to secure funding for acquiring the latest equipment and building new facilities, particularly in rural areas in surrounding areas of Sialkot, training skilled staff, raising awareness about the benefits of antenatal and delivery care.
